After thirteen years in the National Basketball Association, Allen Iverson has retired. At one point in his career, Iverson was the face of the NBA. He was one of the top scorers the league ever had, but there was no market for him in the offseason.
The Memphis Grizzlies reluctantly sign him. Still, he was unhappy on the team and vice versa. After just three games with Memphis, the club released him.
There had been rumors that the New York Knicks might be interested, but that never developed.
There was speculation that he may either be sign with the Charlotte Bobcats or the Miami Heat. Neither came through.
The Bobcats were in need of a star during the summer. There seemed to be too much support for rookie guard Gerald Henderson, however. He currently receives little playing time on a team with six guards. Fans and critics want to see Henderson get more playing time.
Charlotte never did sign Iverson. Head coach, Larry Brown, hoped that he could be a part of the team in some fashion, but it likely would have taken months for something to work out.
Thus, Allen Iverson announced that he is retire from the NBA.
