bradley-bealBradley Beal, considered to be one of the top basketball prospects in the U.S., announced today that he will attend Florida.

Beal, a shooting guard, had whittled his selections down to Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Florida. He was also reportedly considering SLU, Duke and Ohio State.

Beal is a junior at Chaminade High School in St. Louis.  He won’t officially sign a letter of intent until November of next year and he won’t start playing college hoops until the fall of 2011.

Beal following in the footsteps of David Lee, who played ball for Chaminade and also went to Florida. Lee is now with the New York Knicks.

Over the summer, Bradley Beal led the U.S. under-16 national team to the gold medal in the world championships held in Argentina.  He also led Chaminade to the Class 5 state championship in 2008 and racked up 26 points in the 101-87 championship victory against Argentina.

After the trek to Argentina, Beal was ranked the number 1 shooting guard and number 9 player overall in his class by Scout.com.

“His confidence level is really high, but it’s not going to his head,” said Chaminade coach Kelvin Lee this summer. “He came back carrying himself the same way. He’s still level-headed and will keep working. He’s going to take his game to another level. The sky’s the limit for this kid, and he’s still got a serious upside.”
