The audio from the 911 call placed by Shelley Meyer, wife of Florida coach Urban Meyer, has been released.
The Florida Gators lost the SEC Championship game to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Georgia on December 5th. The dramatic 911 call was made the next morning after Meyer and his team had gotten back to Gainesville.
“My husband’s having chest pains,” Shelley can be heard telling the 911 dispatcher. “He’s having chest pains. He just woke up in the middle of the night saying he was having chest pains.”
The call would seem to contradict the University’s initial assertion that coach Meyer was taken to the hospital for “dehydration.”
During the call, there seem to be moments when Mrs. Meyer isn’t really even sure if her husband is coherent.
“Is he completely alert?” asks the operator.
“Urban, Urban, can you talk to me please? No, he’s not talking to me,” replies Shelley.
“So he’s not completely alert?” the operator asks.
“I can’t tell,” says Shelley.
She also told dispatchers that this could have been partly due to the fact that Urban Meyer had taken the prescription sleep drug Ambien.
Last weekend Meyer shocked the sports world by stating that he was going to resign his position as head coach. He later changed his mind and announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from coaching following the Sugar Bowl.
