Marshawn Lynch of the Bills has been sued by the woman he struck during a hit-and-run accident back in 2008.
In the lawsuit, Kimberley Shpeley, 27, says that Lynch was drunk while he was driving his Porsche Cayenne in Buffalo at 3:30 a.m. EST on May 31, 2008 and struck her while she was crossing the street.
Lynch eventually struck a deal with prosecutors and avoided doing any jail time. He did, however, have to plead guilty to “failure to exercise due care toward a pedestrian” and paid a measly $100 fine.
Shpeley is now seeking an unspecified amount of cash for the “severe personal injuries.”
Timothy G. O’Connell, attorney for Kimberly Shpeley, says Lynch was served with a legal summons last week at his Hamburg home.
O’Connell, of the Buffalo law firm of Siegel, Kelleher and Kahn, said he has yet to be contacted by any lawyers representing Marshawn Lynch about the lawsuit, which hasn’t yet been assigned to a local judge.
O’Connell said Shpeley, 28, of Milton, Ont., has returned to her job in the Canadian auto industry but has incurred considerable medical bills over what he described as “permanent” injuries she suffered but which he refused to describe.
Lynch has had a rough couple of years. He was arrested in early 2009 for possession of a concealed firearm.
