Leon Washington is no longer a New York Jet.
Having drafted former USC RB Joe McKnight in the fourth round on Saturday, the Jets dealt Washington to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
The Jets then used that pick to snag former Kentucky fullback John Conner.
Apparently, the Jets don’t have much faith in Washington’s surgically repaired leg. This move, combined with the release of Pro Bowl left guard Alan Faneca, has some players concerned about the potential impact on team chemistry.
Washington, though, had rattled coach Rex Ryan by skipping voluntary workouts over the offseason to rehab his injury. Once he reached the end of his restricted free agent signing period, however, Washington reported to workouts and promised to be ready for training camp.
Washington’s career took a disastrous turn back in October in Oakland when his leg was snapped on a gruesome play that required emergency surgery (below).
