The Lakers have selected Texas El Paso junior forward Derrick Caracter with their second selection in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft, the 58th pick overall. This occurs despite the fact that earlier, GM Mitch Kupchak made it clear that the team’s back-court was their biggest need.
Caracter played his first two seasons with Louisville. He averaged 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds as he nabbed second-team All-Conference USA honors and shot 56.7 percent from the field during league play.
There are some concerns regarding his conditioning, though, as his weight has neared 300 pounds and takes away from his mobility. Some also question his attitude, at times.
