The Detroit Tigers have finally begun to accept the fact that they must move on without their hot releiver Joel Zumaya.
The team has recalled right-handed pitcher Casey Fien from Triple-A Toledo and he’ll be in the bullpen for tonight’s game vs. the Minnesota Twine.
Zumaya officially went on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with an injured right elbow. He is expected to be out much longer than that, however, after suffering an injury while throwing a pitch in the eighth inning Monday night.
Zumaya, 25, was scheduled for an exam today. After the game, manager Jim Leyland said: “It doesn’t look good. It breaks your heart.’
Fien appeared in 26 games with the Mud Hens, going 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA and three saves. He had 27 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.
