Maybe the Chicago White Sox really do have some explosive hitters this year. Check out what happened to Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila last night.
In the eighth inning last night against the White Sox, Avila took a foul ball off his facemask that appeared to knock one of the bars loose.
Upon closer inspection, however, it seems that the impact of the ball caused sparks to fly from Avila’s mask.
It’s unclear whether it was the ball hitting the mask or the ball forcing two parts of the mask to rub together that caused the sparks to fly.
It’s a sight to see, however, check it out in the video and animated GIF below.
