LeBron James to donate $2.5 million to Smithsonian’s Muhammad Ali exhibit [VIDEO]

lebron-jamesA basketball legend is ready to support a boxing legend.

LeBron James says he wants to donate $2.5 million to support an exhibit honoring Muhammad Ali at the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

“Muhammad Ali is such a cornerstone of me as an athlete because of what he represented not only in the ring as a champion but more outside the ring — what he stood for, what he spoke for, his demeanor,” James told USA TODAY Sports.

“I think of him every day. Without his passion and goals and morals, I don’t know if I’d be sitting here today talking to you about it.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers star, his charitable foundation, and his business partner, Maverick Carter, will make the contribution toward the exhibit “Muhammad Ali: A Force for Change.”

James isn’t the only basketball star on board.

Michael Jordan donated $5 million and Magic Johnson & his wife donated at least $1 million.

The new museum opened in September.

Ali died in June at the age of 74.

“I am overwhelmed by the incredible generosity LeBron James has shown,” Ali’s wife Lonnie said in a statement. “This exhibit will enable children visiting the Smithsonian to learn more about Muhammad’s work outside of the ring, particularly his humanitarian work and stance on social justice for all people. … I know that if Muhammad was alive today he would be honored.”

3 NBA teams to boycott Trump hotels

trump-hotelDonald Trump may have won the 2016 presidential election, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to be happy about it.

So far, at least three NBA teams have said they will not stay at any of the hotels that carry the brand of the President-elect.

ESPN reports that the Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks have all moved away from Trump-branded hotels in New York City and Chicago, which carry the Trump name via a licensing agreement.

Milwaukee co-owner Marc Lasry and Dallas owner Mark Cuban are both Hillary Clinton supporters.

Since the election, three NBA coaches – including Detroit’s Stan Van Gundy, Golden State’s Steve Kerr and San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich – have spoken out against a Trump presidency.

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers has even said that, should the Cavs win another title, he isn’t sure if he would visit the White House with Donald Trump in it.
