“These are folks who have helped make me who I am,” Obama said.

Among the athletes recognized were Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Vin Scully.

Appropriately enough, Jordan cried during the ceremony. 

U of Kansas cheerleaders suspended over KKK-Trump pic

University of Kansas KKK TrumpA few University of Kansas students are in hot water over a controversial picture that was posted on social media. 

A cheerleader and three members of the schools spirit squad have been suspended after posting a photo on Snapchat that jokingly linked President-elect Donald Trump to the Ku Klux Klan. 

The photo in question shows three members of the school’s cheer squad sporting sweaters with the letter “K’’ representing “Kansas” on their chests. Typed across the photo is the phrase “Kkk go trump.”

The student who posted the pic, Lili Gagin, and the three students in the photo have all been suspended.

Associate athletic director Jim Marchiony said university officials learned of the posting during the men’s basketball team’s 83-63 victory over UAB, according to CBS News.

DraftKings, FanDuel merger announced

FanDuel DraftKings mergerIt’s been rumored for quite a while, but now the DraftKings/FanDuel merger is actually happening.

The two companies announced the news on Friday morning.

“We have always been passionate about providing the best possible experience for our customers and this merger will help advance our goal of building a transformational global sports entertainment platform,” DraftKings CEO Jason Robins said in a prepared statement.

Robins will serve as CEO of the new company and FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles will be named chairman.

The two companies say that the merger “will allow for further growth and innovation in the fantasy sports industry at large.”

The transaction should be finalized some time in 2017.
